Trying to set up a new brand can be scary as it can be hard to know where to even start. For my I started with the name and tried to think of a bit of a theme around the name, I was wanting to go with something that would be unique but also Scottish, so I started with the word Braw. I also checked if I could get the domain name for the name first as you don’t want to have a cool sounding brand but a disconnected domain name.

Logo Design
After settling on the word braw I then needed to try and create some sort of logo and give the brand some sort of identity. I tried writing out the word in a range of fonts to see how it looked and also asked some people to rate which font they liked the best before settling on the one that worked the best then started to add in the word digital after getting the domain name, my logo was almost ready but still felt like something was missing.

Logo Icon Design
If something is missing from the logo them maybe an icon/symbol would also help, it also makes it easier for things like fav icons or where you need to have a small logo. Because Braw was a Scottish word I thought it might also be good to have the icon that was also connected with Scotland what better then the national animal of Scotland the unicorn.

Finished Logo Design
Putting it all together you then get the finished design. I have also created a grey scale and white version so that I know that it can be used on different backgrounds and how it will look. More detailed logo within a branding guide might also go into spacing around the logo and how close things can be to it based on its size along with Do’s and Don’ts with the logo which usually is don’t skew the logo or distort it in anyway.
Brand design is something that is always evolving and changing over time as a brand grows and ventures into new areas. So sometimes a logo refresh can be in order to help your brand take that next step on its journey.
